A new leak from Twitter suggests that Razer is working on a laptop powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX and Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060. It is touted to ship with a 14-inch screen, too. Unfortunately, there is no information about its remaining specifications and release date at this moment.
Veteran Twitter leaker @_rogame suggests that Intel’s hegemony in Razer notebooks is about to end. Apparently, there is a Razer laptop in the works, which will reportedly feature an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card. Not a whole lot more has been revealed about its specifications. Rogame suggests that it could ship with a 14-inch screen, but neglected to mention its panel type or refresh rate.
This particular configuration seems somewhat odd, though. For starters, there are only a handful of laptops running the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX, such as the Asus ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE GX551QS and Asus ROG Strix G15 G513QR. The former comes with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080, while the latter replaces that with a GeForce RTX 3070. Both reviews make it quite clear that the top-of-the-line Cezanne processor works great with high-end Ampere cards. If anything, the GeForce RTX 3060 runs the risk of bottlenecking the objectively faster AMD silicon. Perhaps Razer has other SKUs with different graphics cards/processors in the works too.
Fans have been clamouring for AMD-powered Razer notebooks for the longest time and it is good to see Razer take the feedback seriously. Hints about Razer looking at AMD CPUs for its laptops emerged all the way back in September 2019. In an interview with Tom’s Hardware, Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan mentioned that there could be future Razer Blade models with AMD Ryzen CPUs.
