The UFC handed out four $50,000 post-fight bonuses Saturday at UFC on ESPN+ 40 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It was an evening with memorable finishes and some exciting fights that went the distance, and as such, the company went with one “Fight of the Night” award and two “Performance of the Night” honors.
UFC officials announced the winners following the event. Check out them out below.
Many think bantamweight is the deepest men’s division at the moment, and it appears the list of contender just got a little deeper. Raoni Barcelos won yet again Saturday night, and he had a willing dance partner who gave him an exciting fight along the way.
Barcelos (16-1 MMA, 5-0 UFC) earned unanimous cards of 30-27 for the win, but that’s the sort of score which doesn’t due justice to Taha’s ability to take a punch and keep his opponent honest along the way.
Both fighters honestly earned their $50,000 “Fight of the Night” bonus, for sure. It was Barcelos’ second career post-fight bonus and Taha’s first.
A head kick, a flurry of punches, and a swift win. It was a good night for Georgian fighter Giga Chikadze, who improved for 5-0 in the UFC heavyweight division.
Chikadze (11-2 MMA, 4-0 UFC) finished Jamey Sammons at the 3:51 mark of the opening round in their main card bout. That gave Chikadze seven straight wins and his first UFC post-fight bonus in five fights.
Alexandr Romanov keeps on winning, and he’s doing little innovating along the way, too.
The unbeaten heavyweight finished Marcos Rogerio de Lima at 4:48 of the opening round in their fight. He did so with a forearm choke, marking the first time in UFC history that move was used to finish a fight.
Romanov (13-0 UFC, 2-0 MMA) nabbed “Performance of the Night” for his first career UFC bonus.
