New Orleans Saints: COVID-19 retest of player comes back negative

The Saints-Lions game scheduled for Sunday will take place as initially scheduled after coronavirus retesting on New Orleans fullback Michael Burton came back negative, according to NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill.

Per Underhill, this is the Saints’ fourth false positive.

On Saturday night, Pro Football Talk reported that a player on the Saints has tested positive for COVID-19. Burton was the player who received an initial positive test, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapaport.

Others who were in contact with the infected player—who was on the team’s flight from New Orleans to Detroit— currently underwent testing, which returned negative results.

The news comes as the NFL has already postponed this week’s Chiefs-Patriots and Steelers-Titans matchups after several players tested positive, including Patriots quarterback Cam Newton.

Kickoff for Sunday’s game is set for 1 p.m. ET.
